fat loss basics

July 3rd, 2009

Fat loss is a complex system.

There is a very good reason you should understand how it works! Let’s start with the basics.

Many methods fail because they (intentionally) focus on just one (usually wrong) detail :
  • Fat loss pills (and contraptions or creams) that (supposedly) optimize stage I of lipolysis while you are having problems with stage II.
  • Supplements that optimize stage II (or claim to) while stage I isn’t happening.
  • Fat loss pills that reduce hunger but cause digestive problems, lower lipolysis and metabolism.
  • Exercises that sollicit type I muscle cells when you are predominantly type II, or the other way around.
  • Exercise that burns an extra 500 calories while you have a 1000 calorie surplus.
  • Low calorie diets that you cannot withstand because you are struggling with hunger, which should be attended to first.
  • Diets that require a much too drastic change in your eating habits.
  • Diets that cause fat burning for energy to slow (reduced calorie intake is therefore compensated by fatigue instead of fat burning).
If I just gave you a list of things to do, some would not necessarily work for you.  Or you might want to just adapt them to fit your lifestyle and tastes, and would not know how.

Or you might think you know how and get it wrong.  This is why understanding fat loss is much more than just interesting.  It is necessary.

The fat loss basics section gives you an overview of everything I think is important. Then you can move on to the details – there are a lot of them, buteach page teaches you something few people know.

Failed fat loss attempts make you waste years.

Each time you try one of those commercial methods, you’ve fed the fat loss industry by buying a book, weight loss foods, a piece of equipment, pills with unknown side-effects… Each attempt is weeks or months of wasted time and effort, not to mention the time it takes to find the motivation to try again.

The truth is that you need everything to work well to succeed.  Stages I & II of lipolysis, digestion, metabolism (prevent the so-called starve mode), have a calorie deficit that doesn’t  leave you hungry and craving and optionally exercise that is right for you.

You do not need supplements or equipment to achieve it.

Once you understand fat loss and have a plan that you know will work for you, it is time to decide that you want to be in good shape and put the plan in action.
