Digestion

June 30th, 2009

Poor digestion is a common problem that ruins efforts to lose fat.

It reduces the effectiveness of lipolysis and your metabolism.  It increases hunger. It is potentially very uncomfortable.

Hormones cause hunger, and other hormones cause hunger to cease.  One of those is cholecystokinin and it is released by the intestines.  If the proper nutrients aren’t digested and absorbed, you will have to eat more to cause this reaction, and eating more is not good.  It means eating more sugar and fat, and those never fail to enter your system.

Poor digestion and absorption also means missing nutrients that are necessary for lipolysis.

Then there are the health benefits in general.  Many risks including but not limited to colon cancer and ulcers can be avoided by improving digestion.

Not to mention the comfort it provides.

Improving digestion is the most disregarded aspect of fat loss in just about every existing program.  Suppose the health foods you buy were good for fat loss.  What good would they do if they aren’t absorbed properly?  What good is exercise if poor digestion causes you to absorb more fat and sugar, and less of the protein you need to maintain muscle mass?

Digestion starts with chewing and salivating then continues in the stomach and the small intestine and ends in the large intestine where water is absorbed. Like anything that happens in multiple stages, there are many places it can go wrong, and things you can do to fix it that you never suspected!
